Diferencias entre IN TIME y ON TIME

Muchas veces nos equivocamos a la hora de eligir entre estas dos opciones, veamos en que difieren:
ON TIME
On time lo traducimos por puntual, a la hora esperada.
The train arrived on time. El tren llegó a tiempo (a la hora que estaba programada).
Sylvia didn’t arrive on time, so Bill set off without her. Sylvia no llegó a tiempo (llegó tarde), por lo que Bill partió sin ella.


IN TIME

In time lo traducimos como con suficiente tiempo para hacer algo.

Bill left very early this morning, I think he will arrive in time for the conference. Bill salió muy temprano esta mañana, creo que lleguará a tiempo (con tiempo suficiente) al Congreso.
Sylvia sent the documentation for the trup. I think it’ll arrive in time. Sylvia envió la documentación para el viaje. Creo que lleguará a tiempo (con el tiempo suficiente).
